London 2012 logo: a disaster
A lot of things in this world have become “cheapened” over the past hundred years, but the Olympics symbol has remained clear, elegant and professional despite changing and modernising theories of design.
You can imagine my shock when I found London’s absolutely disgusting attempt at a youth-relevant, internet-trendy, modern-day-ready logo for their 2012 games. Above is the logo which has been accepted and published on the official site at www.london2012.com.
Oh, and by the way, London paid the logo designer a cool £400 000 to create this monstrosity.
I know… I was surprised as well… because it looks as if it was drawn by the Head of the Olympics two-year-old daughter!
Flip London, you can do better than this.

I was absolutely horrified to see this logo on the TV (it’s even worse when animated)… for a cool £400,000, I’d have done their logo, captions, and everything. I’d even have thrown in a cuddly toy. It’s just abhorant to anyone with an ounce of design sense.
All they’re saying is that London is 35 years out of date when it comes to design.

That is terrible, just terrible, then they get paid a massive R5.9 mil for it too!! Does the governing board have a say, and can they stop this mess? I heard that they had said that it is not the brand though, maybe I read wrong.

That looks like it was ripped from some cheap product from the 70s. I can’t believe they got paid $800,000 CDN for it! When is it a good idea to stylize text like that? I can’t think of a reason other than to show university students how NOT to design a logo.
I should apply for my 800 grand.

This just gets worse! 8 minutes (R5.9 million) does not quite go together. Have the board of the OOOO thought of getting it redesigned?
